The IDF’s Haruv reconnaissance unit conducted a joint overnight exercise with the Israel Dog Unit, a nonprofit specializing in working dogs, in difficult terrain in northern Israel. The exercise was part of Haruv's preparations for deployment to Lebanon. It continued throughout the night in challenging field conditions and focused on improving the units’ ability to respond to complex scenarios deep inside hostile territory.
IDU handlers participated with specialized search dogs, which were used to simulate an opposing force under difficult terrain conditions. The teams practiced responding to a range of scenarios that could develop during operations in complex environments.
The exercise was designed to strengthen cooperation between the two units and improve the ability of IDU teams and their dogs to operate alongside military forces in demanding conditions.
IDU director Yekutiel Ben- Yaakov commented: “Our exercise with the Haruv reconnaissance unit is critical for us and for the unit’s soldiers. Our dogs enter complex areas to locate missing people and those trapped. Working together with a professional unit like Haruv improves our readiness for a real incident and saves lives. It was a challenging exercise that provides a response to complex scenarios."
