The Jewish People Policy Institute’s (JPPI) August 2026 Voice of the Jewish People Index found that just one-third of US Jews view the war with Iran as successful, while nearly two-thirds view it as a failure.
According to the survey, 33% of US respondents said the campaign succeeded, compared with 64% who said it failed and 4% who said they did not know. The share viewing the campaign as successful has declined from 66% in March to 56% in April, 48% in May, 28% in June, 36% in July and 33% in August.
The survey found a sharp political divide. Among strong liberals, 89% viewed the campaign as a failure, while 80% of strong conservatives viewed it as a success. Among those who voted in the 2024 US presidential election, 73% of Trump voters viewed the campaign as successful, while 84% of Harris voters viewed it as a failure.
Similar declines were recorded among respondents in Canada and the UK. In Canada, the share viewing the campaign as successful fell from 70% in March to 37% in August. In the UK, it fell from 75% to 31% over the same period.
Despite the declining assessment of the campaign’s outcome, 55% of connected US Jews said the US military action against Iran did not go far enough. Thirty percent said it went too far, 3% said it was about right, and 12% said they did not know.
Among strong liberals, 64% said the action went too far. By contrast, 96% of lean conservatives and 93% of strong conservatives said it did not go far enough. Among Trump voters, 94% said the action did not go far enough, while 45% of Harris voters said it went too far.
Ratings of the leaders who conducted the campaign also declined. Twenty-six percent of US respondents rated President Donald Trump’s leadership on Iran as good in August, compared with 46% in March. Sixty-seven percent rated his leadership as poor and 6% as neutral.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership rating on Iran declined from 53% rating it as good in March to 38% in August, while 52% rated it as poor. Among strong conservatives, 92% rated Netanyahu’s leadership positively, compared with 11% of strong liberals. Among centrists, 47% rated his leadership as good and 37% as poor.
The survey was conducted August 15-20, 2026, among 804 US respondents, 136 Canadian respondents and 68 UK respondents. JPPI said the survey primarily reflects the views of “connected" Jews with relatively strong ties to the Jewish community, Israel and/or Jewish identity, and that the sample is not representative of all US Jews. Canadian and UK findings were presented as indicative trends due to the small sample sizes.
