A 15-year-old minor was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of beating and kicking a kitten near the Lions’ Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City. The incident was identified by operators at the Israel Police’s Mabat 2000 surveillance center.
According to police, the incident occurred on Bab al-Huta Street and was classified as animal abuse. Following the footage, officers from the David District and Jerusalem Border Police officers from the Old City Battalion began working to locate the suspect.
During the operation, conducted with the assistance of Mabat 2000 surveillance operators, police located a 15-year-old resident of the area suspected of beating and kicking the kitten. Officers arrested him, and he was taken to the David District for questioning.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the minor was brought before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court. The court ordered that he be released to house arrest.
The investigation file was transferred to the Israel Police Prosecution Unit for review. The unit will consider further proceedings in the case and whether to prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law.
