Just before the start of the 2026-2027 school year, the Population and Immigration Authority has published the list of the most common names among new students who will begin first grade.

The data show that Mohammed tops the overall ranking for boys, while Tamar ranks first among girls.

In the overall boys’ ranking, Yosef is in second place and Adam in third. They are followed by David, Omer, Ariel, Daniel, Lavi, Eitan and Ahmad.

Among boys in the Jewish sector, the picture is different, with Ariel ranking first and David second. Lavi is third, followed by Uri, Daniel, Eitan, Noam, Itay, Rafael and Yehuda.

Tamar tops the overall list for girls, followed by Miriam and Avigail in second and third place. Rounding out the top ten are Adele, Sarah, Yael, Noa, Shira, Lia and Maya.

Tamar also ranks first among girls in the Jewish sector, with Avigail in second place and Yael in third. They are followed by Noa, Adele, Shira, Sarah, Ayala, Lia and Ella.
