Talks on forming a joint political bloc in the center of the political spectrum are continuing. National Unity chairman Benny Gantz and former minister Gilad Erdan held another meeting at Gantz’s home on Friday, as they seek to advance the initiative ahead of the upcoming elections.
According to Channel 12 News, the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, and the two agreed to continue their discussions next week. At the same time, the possibility is being considered of having negotiating teams representing both sides meet in the coming days to begin working out the details of a potential alliance.
During the meeting, Erdan stressed that the success of the initiative depends first and foremost on establishing shared principles, rather than fighting over positions on the party slate. He said the public expects to see a clear vision and path forward before the distribution of positions.
Gantz, for his part, presented his red lines for the alliance. Among other things, he is demanding a commitment to form a broad Zionist government that does not rely on haredi or Arab parties; pass a “Draft Law for Everyone" before the government is sworn in; promote state education for all Israeli children; and pursue judicial reform based on broad consensus.
The meeting came a day after Gantz publicly called for the unification of forces within a third political bloc, in a move aimed at creating a broad political alternative ahead of election day.
