The IDF carried out an aerial strike in the Jenin area on Friday, targeting a vehicle carrying three terrorists. The primary target was the head of a terrorist network in Jenin who, according to security officials, was involved in planning attacks. Two accomplices were traveling with him.
According to the report, an IDF drone fired a missile at the vehicle in a strike considered relatively unusual in Judea and Samaria in recent months. Several senior figures in terrorist networks in Jenin have been eliminated in recent years, and the attempt to eliminate the current head of the network highlights efforts by terrorists to rebuild their infrastructure in the area.
Defense officials note that despite the IDF’s extensive operational control of the area, the Jenin refugee camp continues to serve as a focal point for terrorist activity. For more than a year, the IDF has operated in the heart of the camp after evacuating its residents, expanding access routes, destroying terrorist infrastructure, and carrying out numerous arrests.
The strike comes one day after IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered heightened alert levels in Judea and Samaria ahead of the holiday season. He also instructed the military to prepare to activate an additional regular division headquarters to reinforce forces in the area.
