A channel of communication between Jerusalem and Damascus: Mossad Director Roman Gofman met on Sunday with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, two sources told Axios. The meeting was intended to lower tensions and calm relations between the two countries.
The dramatic talks took place just days after the Israeli Air Force struck a military base in Syrian territory, a move that led to a sharp escalation and heightened tensions between the two sides.
A source familiar with the details said that the meeting between the two went well and that they agreed to continue their dialogue in an effort to put the security talks between the two sides back on track.
The Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem declined to issue an official response to the report. A spokesman for Syrian Foreign Minister al-Shaibani likewise did not respond.
