Two days after the chaotic surprise strike at Ben Gurion International Airport, the Airports Authority is stepping up measures against union chairman Pinchas Idan.
The chairman of the authority's board of directors, Yiftah Ron-Tal, contacted legal counsel with a request to examine the cancellation of Idan's extraordinary term extension, which was approved about three months ago.
Meanwhile, the authority announced that it would dismiss Idan’s aide, Reuven Nakar, after it was revealed that for years he had clocked in without actually working. The Civil Service Commission’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Idan, on his part, contacted the Labor Court, claiming that porters are forced to work 12-hour shifts, six days a week, and that the union is not responsible for the strike. The Airports Authority rejected his claims and insists that the porters' early departure is what led to the unusual disruptions at the airport.
