Two dozen people who have been wounded in drive-by shooting attacks, and relatives of others who were murdered in similar attacks, have written a powerful letter to Prime Minister Sharon and other defense officials. The letter warns that a decision to relax restrictions on Arab traffic in Judea and Samaria will be "an abandonment of Jewish lives," that "this message is already written in blood on the roads of Yesha, and is well known to you," and that it is "an expressly unlawful order."

To:

The Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon

The Defense Minister, Shaul Mofaz

The Chief of Staff, Gen. Moshe (Bugi) Ya'alon

Dear Sirs,

In the coming days, or perhaps in the coming hours, you will decide to remove roadblocks throughout Yesha, allowing free Arab traffic. This, in accordance with the Road Map ("the State of Israel will implement the recommendations of the Bertini Report, including cessation of curfew and easing of travel between Palestinian territories"), despite the fact that this program has not yet been confirmed by the government.

This decision is termed, in diplomatic jargon, confidence-gaining measures or easing of travel, but, in fact, you are well aware that this is an abandonment of Jewish lives traveling on the roads of Yesha, allowing increased chances of terror attacks, that will undoubtedly be taken advantage of by the terrorists. This message is already written in blood on the roads of Yesha, and is well known to you.

We, relatives and victims of Arab terror, who have already paid with our lives and our health, the price of brutal terror, murder and death, on the roads of Yesha, turn to you with this warning:

If the definition of an expressly unlawful order is: a command which causes the killing of innocent people - the reopening of roads in Yesha surely fulfills this definition.

Therefore, whoever gives the order to reopen the roads of Yesha to free Arab traffic, is giving an expressly unlawful order. And whoever implements such an order, is implementing an expressly illegal order.

We turn to you, to prevent such a decision, or such orders.

We turn to all IDF officers, to prevent implementation of such orders.

Undoubtedly, whoever gives such orders or instructions, or whoever fulfills them, will be responsible for any further bloodshed, as a result of them.

Sincerely,

Oshrat Arama, widow of Rabbi Yitzchak Arama, H.y.d. [May G-d avenge his blood]
