The police published a video on Thursday capturing a tense chase that unfolded a day earlier as a Traffic Police squad operated in Jerusalem.
A patrol motorcyclist noticed a motor scooter carrying an additional rider in the Beit Hanina neighborhood and ordered them to pull over to the side of the road for a routine inspection.
The driver ignored the officer's orders and began to flee while driving erratically, endangering himself, the other rider, and others on the road. The officer accelerated after the scooter, which eventually slipped.
After slipping, the scooter riders abandoned the vehicle and began to run. The patrol motorcyclist began an on-foot pursuit, reported the incident on the radio, and managed to apprehend the driver.
At the same time, accomplices at the scene attempted to remove the scooter from the scene of the incident. Quick scans, carried out under the precise guidance of an observer from the Jerusalem District control center, led to the location and seizure of the vehicle.
A check of the suspect's details, a 20-year-old from Beit Hanina and the Shu'afat refugee camp, revealed that he had never obtained a driver's license. It also emerged that this was the third time he had been caught driving without a license. The young man was arrested, taken in for questioning, and summoned to appear in court.
