Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani has revealed new details of the missile strike at the beginning of the joint US-Israeli war against the Iranian Regime, which injured Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
Speaking to the Iranian Student News Network (SNN), Zakani said the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. and that a missile “directly hit the upper floor of the building" as Khamenei and his wife were preparing to depart.
According to Zakani, Khamenei’s wife, identified as Zahra Haddad-Adel, was present at the residence at the time. He said she normally sent the couple’s children to school at around 7:30 a.m. and that she was killed in the direct missile strike. Zakani added that Mojtaba was wounded in the attack.
Zakani also recounted accounts from individuals who were with Khamenei immediately after the incident, saying that while medical personnel were treating his injuries and stitching his wounds, he remained focused on performing his prayers. “At the height of his pain and injuries, he continuously remained concerned with performing the prayer," Zakani said. He described Khamenei as showing kindness, deep trust in God, and calmness despite the circumstances.
Discussing the appointment of Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Zakani said the decision carried specific messages to the United States. He stated that previous political periods had ended and that a new path had begun in which the Islamic system and the “axis of resistance" had gained greater regional and global influence. Referring to the leadership of Mojtaba Khamenei, Zakani said the Islamic Revolution would become “more mature, more distinctive and broader" in this period.
Zakani further recalled a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Ali Larijani, who was eliminated in an Israeli airstrike during the war, saying he had told him that his role had elevated the standing of the Secretariat of the Islamic Cooperation Organization. “I told the late Larijani that the Secretariat gained value because of you," Zakani said, attributing the institution’s increased influence to Larijani’s judgment, firmness, and persistence in confronting challenges.
