A recent operational incident in the Gaza Strip sector reflects the complex command situation facing troops in the field, particularly with the next stage of the 15-point plan coming into effect.
Channel 12 News reported that IDF surveillance teams detected unusual movement by terrorists, raising serious concerns about an attempt to cross the Yellow Line. Following the detection, the alert level was raised and troops were dispatched toward the fence, but no strike was carried out in response.
Soldiers involved in the incident said they requested authorization to strike in the area in order to prevent a surprise attack and maintain deterrence. The defense establishment, however, chose to keep the forces at a heightened state of defensive readiness only and opposed opening fire.
An officer in the field said: “We wanted to strike - and they wouldn’t authorize it. We feel that our hands are tied in the face of terrorists who are already planning the next massacre."
