Rabbi Avraham Wiener, one of the senior figures of the Biala hasidic sect, passed away Friday morning at Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center in Bnei Brak at the age of 93.
Rabbi Wiener was born in May 1933 (4 Iyar 5693) to Yosef Binyamin and Chava Wiener. In his youth, he studied at the Or Yisrael Yeshiva in Petah Tikva and devoted most of his life to Torah study and communal leadership.
For many years, he was a close disciple of successive Biala Rebbes, including Rabbi Yechiel Yehoshua of Kutno, author of "Chelkat Yehoshua," Rabbi David Mattityahu Rabinowitz, author of "Hamevaser Tov," as well as the current Biala Rebbe.
He is survived by a large family, including his son, Shmuel Yitzhak Wiener, who serves as Director-General of the Lekach Tov Talmud Torah in Bnei Brak.
The funeral procession departed Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. from his home on Harav Maimon Street in Bnei Brak, and continued at 12:45 p.m. from Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem to the Mount of Olives cemetery, where he will be laid to rest.
