The United States on Thursday struck the B1 Bridge linking Tehran and the suburb of Karaj.

US officials stated that the bridge was opened in January, but some Iranian press reports said it was still not operational.

A US security official told Axios that the bridge was struck because the Iranian armed forces used it to move missiles and missile parts from Tehran to launch sites in Western Iran. The official added that additional bridges may be targeted.

US President Donald Trump shared footage of the strike on Truth Social and wrote, "The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again - Much more to follow!"

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi commented defiantly on the strike, writing:" Striking civilian structures, including unfinished bridges, will not compel Iranians to surrender. It only conveys the defeat and moral collapse of an enemy in disarray. Every bridge and building will be built back stronger. What will never recover: damage to America's standing."

The strike comes after President Trump declared in an address to the nation that "we are going to hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks. We’re going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong."

Regarding those remarks, Foreign Minister Araghchi commented: "There's one striking difference between the present and the Stone Age: there was no oil or gas being pumped in the Middle East back then. Are POTUS and Americans who put him in office sure that they want to turn back the clock?"
