Kamal Kharazi, a senior adviser to Iran's supreme leader, was injured in a US-Israeli attack on Tehran, CNN reported Wednesday, citing Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency.

"In today’s bombing of residential homes in Tehran by the American-Zionist enemy, Dr. Kamal Kharazi was injured," Mehr said in its report.

CNN has not independently verified the claim, and US and Israeli officials have not publicly commented on the report.

Kharazi previously served as Iran's foreign minister. In an interview with CNN in March, Kharazi stated he believed Iran could sustain the conflict for an extended period and said he did not see room for diplomacy.

Mehr did not provide details about the extent of Kharazi’s injuries.

Reports of Kharazi’s injury come ahead of US President Donald Trump’s primetime address, scheduled for Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. EDT. Politico reported that, during the speech, the president plans to declare that the month-long war in Iran is winding down.

In a social media post Wednesday morning, Trump asserted that Iran “has asked…for a CEASEFIRE!" But he added a key condition for accepting: “We will consider when Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear."

Iran denied Trump’s claim, with its Foreign Ministry calling it "false and baseless."

In a separate statement, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps declared that the Strait of Hormuz "is firmly and decisively under the control" of its forces.

"This strait will not be opened to the enemies of this nation through the ridiculous spectacle by the president of the United States," it added.
