Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz pledged that Israel would continue to fight terrorism despite the formation of a new PA government headed by Abu Mazen - and it happened again today. Spurred on by the fatal terrorist attack in Kfar Sava yesterday only hours after an Arafat-Abu Mazen agreement was announced, the IDF began a major counter-terrorism operation in and around Jenin over the night. Large IDF forces, including tanks, have been operating since the early morning hours in Jenin and its slums-camp. One soldier has been lightly wounded in exchanges of fire, and several wanted terrorists have been arrested.

Other arrests of terrorists were made in Kalkilye, Tul Karem, and Bethlehem. In addition, some 15 Arabs suspected of setting electric poles ablaze in the Gush Etzion community of Beitar Illit and throwing rocks at motorists were taken into custody.

A Border Guard patrol discovered a one-ton cache of chemicals in a wadi northeast of Jerusalem today. The chemicals were hidden under rocks, and police suspect that the materials were to be used in preparing terrorist bombs.
