A security guard for Israel Railways in Kfar Sava was killed this morning while preventing a suicide terrorist from entering the train station in the eastern part of the city. As the 22-year-old guard was checking the 18-year-old terrorist, from the Al Aksa Brigades of Fatah, the latter put his hand in his coat and detonated the 5-kilogram bomb. Another guard nearby was seriously wounded, another person was moderately injured, and some 15 others were hurt lightly. Eyewitnesses said that the terrorist appeared confused and nervous, and that his coat in the hot weather was strange. These signs did not arouse suspicion, however, as they were apparently offset by his light complexion and jelled hair offset.
Local Police Chief Yehuda Bechar said that despite the death of the security guard, he is satisfied with the police deployment in the city: "Unfortunately, one guard was killed - but because of his actions, many people inside the station can say that their lives were saved by what he did."
Today's attack puts in high relief the contrast between Abu Mazen's international commitment to fight terrorism, and the terrorist actions by the very organizations that are under his control.
