The Hevron Jewish Community is preparing to welcome tens of thousands of guests on Sunday and Monday for the Chol HaMoed open-house visits to the Machpelah Cave and the other Jewish sites there. The semi-annual music festival, featuring many Hassidic performing artists, will take place, as it does every Sukkot and Passover, outside the Machpelah Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs. In addition, the Gutnick Center will provide Kosher-for-Passover food for visitors, the gift shop will be open, and tours to Beit Hadassah, Beit Romano, Yeshiva Shavei Shomron, the ancient Jewish cemetery, and other areas will be available.

The Jewish community in Hevron also remembers its fallen IDF Commander of the Judea Region, Col. Dror Weinberg. Five months ago, on Friday night, November 15, 2002, he was one of 12 men killed by terrorists in an ambush attack on Worshipers' Path between Kiryat Arba and Hevron. Last week, Dror's widow Hadassah gave birth to a boy, their sixth child. On Passover eve, Wednesday morning, the family celebrated the baby's Brit Milah (ritual circumcision) and his entry into the eternal covenant of the Jewish people. The baby's name: Dror Nechemia.
