Miami police on Tuesday arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a Jewish teacher near a Jewish school in Miami Beach, in what authorities are treating as an antisemitic incident.
The attack took place after the teacher parked her car a short distance from the school and began walking toward the building. According to police details, the suspect approached her, spat in her face, and called her a “dirty Jew.” He then struck her in the head, grabbed her phone, and smashed it repeatedly until it was destroyed.
The teacher managed to flee and ran toward the school, where staff members immediately contacted law enforcement. Officers arrived within minutes and launched a search of the surrounding area.
A police drone unit and detectives joined the effort, and the suspect was located and taken into custody shortly thereafter.
Investigators later spoke with the teacher at the school. She told them that at the time of the attack she was wearing a necklace featuring a Star of David, clearly identifying her as Jewish.
