Elad Cohen, 17-years old and a student at the Susya Yeshiva, was killed on Wednesday, when an ATV he was riding overturned in an open area near Kibbutz Ruhama in the Negev. He will be laid to rest today.
MDA paramedic Dana Levitin said, "When we arrived at the scene, we saw the injured young man, a 17-year-old, next to the overturned ATV. He was unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing. He was suffering from multiple systemic injuries. We performed medical tests, but due to the nature of the injuries he suffered, we had no choice but to pronounce him dead."
His family says that Elad, a resident of Sderot, was a man "of great stature," a dedicated student who loved Torah. According to them, he was connected to the Land of Israel, and came to study at the Susiya Yeshiva out of a desire to "walk the length and breadth of the country." He got up early every morning to study with one of his rabbis.
They also said that "Elad was a hardworking and persistent boy, who trained regularly with the goal of reaching a significant unit in the IDF." His yeshiva friends had already started choosing the pre-military programs they would join next year, and he himself planned to study at a higher yeshiva to intensify his studies. Family members describe him as a combination of both the holy and the secular, of earthly ways and human dignity, and his father added that "he died doing what he loved; being on the soil of the land of Israel."
