Hundreds of rabbis, students and public officials gathered at the eastern Toga shore of the Kinneret this week to thank G-d for the abundance of rain with which we were blessed this year.
The special prayer of gratitude was led by Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, the chief rabbi of Tzfat, and comes on the heels of prayers at the start of the winter season, in which the same group begged for the much-needed precipitation.
The prayer ceremony included chapters of Psalms, the wearing of Tefillin, and the reciting of a special Kabbalistic prayer of thanks.
Rabbi Eliyahu also took the opportunity to lead the large gathering in a special prayer for the American-led coalition forces in Iraq, for true peace and for “all who struggle to root out evil from this earth.”
