Prime Minister Ariel Sharon turned down this morning a request by Transportation Minister Avigdor Lieberman (National Union) that the Road Map plan and Israel's objections thereof be debated in the Cabinet. Sharon said that the details of the discussion in such a forum would "be leaked within two minutes." Instead, the Prime Minister plans to review the government's 15 major objections only with Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom.

Minister Uzi Landau (Likud) said that the entire Road Map plan must be changed, and that "corrections and comments are not enough." He said that Israel must set some pre-conditions, including the end to the demand for the Right of Return and a public declaration by the PA of its recognition of Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state.

Also at today's Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Sharon noted that today marks the 100th anniversary of the infamous Kishinev pogrom of 1903 (see <"http://kishinev.lk.net/pogrom.html"> and <"www.iea.org.il/blueprint/page014.htm">). He said that it is incumbent upon the State of Israel to continue recalling the events which befell the Jewish people in the Diaspora, for two reasons: "In order to prevent their recurrence, and so that Jews around the world will understand that they must immigrate to Israel, the only place in the world where Jews have the right and the power to defend themselves." Minister Lieberman will lead the Israeli delegation to a conference that will begin in Kishinev tomorrow.
