Kinneret Water Watch - April 1, 2003

The Kinneret, Israel’s main water source, rose an additional 4 centimeters over the past 24 hours, bringing the total for the winter season to 4.59 meters. Only an additional 1.36 meters are missing to reach the optimal level of 208.9 meters below sea level (measured relative to the Mediterranean Sea).

Israeli water authorities have daily been pumping hundreds of thousands of cubic meters of water out of the Kinneret this past week into the national water carrier that leads to the Negev and the nation’s central region aquifers. Authorities continue to point out in amazement that these critical aquifers were in serious danger of turning salty only a few short weeks ago.
