Israeli Border Police, in conjunction with IDF forces, took preemptive action last night against "counterfeit" egg production and distribution in the Palestinian Authority.

During the operation, the forces uncovered an apparatus which was embedding fake stamps of several Israeli companies such as Tnuvah (Israel's largest dairy company) on the eggs. The workshop was discovered in the Palestinian Authority village of Bait Likiya, between the northern Jerusalem suburb of Givat Ze'ev and Modiin.

Of the 900,000 eggs seized, some 300,000 eggs in cartons were already embedded with the phony markings, and an additional 600,000 eggs were completely ready to be shipped out to Israeli markets. Some of the eggs are believed to be tainted with various diseases such as salmonella.

In addition, receipts from Israeli businesses such as wedding halls and stores were discovered in the workshop. Two PA residents were arrested and brought to the Binyamin Region police station for questioning.
