A cell of at least 18 armed terrorists attempted to raid an IDF outpost along the Morag Corridor in Khan Yunis, opening fire with firearms and antitank fire.
The terrorists reached the entrance to the fortified position, with some managing to breach it and fire directly at the troops on guard. Soldiers from the Nachshon Battalion of the Kfir Brigade returned fire, killing around ten terrorists in close-quarters combat, while the remaining attackers fled back into nearby tunnels.
Assessments indicate the terrorists emerged simultaneously from several adjacent shafts. Three Kfir soldiers were wounded in the unusual incident — one seriously and two moderately.
According to the military, the attackers likely intended to abduct soldiers, as they were carrying stretchers during the assault. However, no kidnapping attempt was successful.
Once the cell was detected, tanks and aircraft were dispatched to the scene and struck the terrorists. IDF forces are continuing sweeps in the area to locate additional terrorists.
Two UAVs accompanied the entire incident, providing intelligence and carrying out precision strikes. The drones first issued a warning over communications at 09:01, began scanning within minutes, and carried out the first aerial strike at 09:18.
In total, 11 strikes were conducted: 4 by UAVs, 6 by fighter jets, and one by a combat helicopter. The IDF stated: “The use of aerial forces enabled a rapid response, support for ground troops, and the elimination of the threat in the area.”
The army emphasized that this was a well-organized and unusual attack, occurring amid ongoing negotiations for a deal with Hamas. According to assessments, the cell intended to infiltrate the outpost and possibly abduct soldiers, but the raid was entirely thwarted.
