A student at the Nezer Yisrael yeshiva in Modiin Illit was arrested at 1:45 a.m. on Tuesday at his home in Or Yehuda and was taken to a military detention facility.

Adv. Shlomo Haddad, who is representing the detainee, stated that the student deferred military service in accordance with the law, and only recently was classified as a draft dodger.

The arrest comes amid a wave of arrests of hareid draft dodgers over the past few weeks, which has angered many in the community.

According to officials from the haredi parties, the wave of arrests is “a deliberate hunt of yeshiva students aimed at creating an atmosphere of exceptional enforcement, precisely during this sensitive period of discussions surrounding the Draft Law.”

They also claimed that "the purpose of the late-night arrests is to cause public fear and stress," and warned that "the continuation of this conduct will exacerbate the fight by the haredi spiritual leadership and deepen the political crisis."
