IDF Spokesman Effie Defrin revealed during a press briefing on Tuesday that an Israeli Air Force aircraft operating deep in Iranian airspace identified a squad firing surface-to-air missiles at the aircraft. The aircraft quickly targeted the launcher, eliminating the squad.
"Last night, following precise intelligence received from our Intelligence Directorate, we eliminated Ali Shadmani, the most senior military commander of the Iranian regime during the war," Defrin opened his remarks. "He was eliminated at the Iranian regime's headquarters in the center of Tehran. Shadmani served as the wartime Chief of Staff of the Iranian regime’s armed forces and was a close associate of Iran’s Supreme Leader."
Shadmani, who had been appointed to replace Gholam Ali Rashid as Chief of Staff, had held the position for only four days before his elimination. Rashid, Defrin explained, was also neutralized in the initial strike of the ongoing operation.
"Our relentless pursuit of enemies is made possible through our advanced intelligence capabilities, air superiority, and complex operational planning," Defrin continued, emphasizing the IDF's commitment to targeting high-ranking military officials and infrastructure tied to the Iranian regime.
In addition to the successful elimination of Shadmani, the IDF carried out a series of strikes across Iran, targeting missile launchers, UAV storage facilities, and missile production and storage sites. "Last night, we struck surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missile launchers, as well as UAV storage facilities and missile production sites," he said. "These operations are critical in neutralizing threats and stopping significant amounts of fire directed at Israel’s home front."
"We continue to address aerial threats and target them according to a structured plan," Defrin explained, emphasizing the importance of these operations in safeguarding Israel from further missile fire.
Despite the success of the IDF's operations, Defrin noted the ongoing threat posed by Iranian missile attacks on Israel. "This morning and throughout the night, approximately thirty missiles were launched toward the State of Israel," he reported. "Most of the missiles were intercepted, but several impacts were identified." He urged citizens to remain vigilant and follow the IDF Home Front Command's directives for their safety.
"The Iranians still possess the capabilities and intent to strike Israel’s home front," Defrin said. "We cannot afford to be complacent. Adhering to the Home Front Command's instructions is critical, as these directives save lives."
Finally, Defrin addressed the recent loss of two IDF soldiers. "We mourn the loss of First Sergeant Naveh Leshem, 20, a combat soldier in the Golani Brigade, and Captain (Res.) Tal Movshovitz, 28, a deputy company commander in the same unit. Both fell in battle during intense operations in Gaza," he said. "We share in the grief of their families, and their sacrifice serves as another reminder of the heavy price we pay in this just war."
Defrin concluded by reaffirming the IDF's commitment to continuing operations on all fronts, both defensive and offensive. "This is a war for our future and the future of our children. Together, we will prevail," he stated, vowing to keep the public informed with regular updates as the situation progresses.
