New information on the fatal car accident in Binyamin paints a different picture than had been portrayed in the media throughout most of the yesterday. The tragic car crash yesterday morning killed Edit Roeh, 41, mother of six children of Kokhav Yaakov, and two sisters from the Ben-Saadon family of Maaleh Michmash. Radio and TV reports almost throughout the day reported that Edit Roeh had not stopped at a stop sign when turning onto the bypass-Ramallah highway, at which a point a truck rammed into her car, killing the three almost instantly.

Police are now giving a different story, however, and have arrested the truck driver, a 23-year-old from the Bedouin town of Rahat, on suspicion of having driven recklessly. The truck driver has several previous convictions for traffic offenses, and even tried to tamper with on-board instruments recording his driving speed at the time of the fatal crash. Eyewitnesses said that the truck driver was passing dangerously and crossing the white line when the accident occurred, according to local police.

Edit Roeh, a teacher at the Ofrah Girls Ulpanah High School, is survived by six children ranging in age from 6 to 20, and her husband Avi, the Deputy Mayor of the Binyamin Regional Council. Hundreds of people attended her funeral in Har HaMenuchot in Jerusalem. The two sisters, Hadas and Yael Ben Saadon, 15 and 13, were students in the Ofrah Ulpanah. They are survived by their parents - owners of the local grocery store - and six siblings, two of whom are married. They were also buried at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery.
