A ceremony was held on Wednesday morning at the National Hall for Israel's Fallen on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem in which the names of fallen soldiers were read.
Defense Minister Israel Katz addressed the ceremony: "On this holy day, our hearts are with the fallen, with their families, and with those who carry the scars of war on their bodies and minds."
In the address, Katz declared: "The main lesson learned from the events of October 7th is that the IDF must always be a barrier between such enemies and our communities and residents - in the security zone in Lebanon, on the peak of Mount Hermon and the security zone in Syria, in the refugee camps in northern Samaria, and in the security areas surrounding Gaza which seperate between the enemy and the communities of the western Negev.
"The principle is clear: Israel is bent on defending itself against any threat, and that's what we'll continue to do. From here, I want to address all service members of the IDF and the security forces, and tell you: You are the heroes of the time. You are the ones who defend our home and prove to the world that the Israeli spirit will never break. I'm proud of you, the entire nation is proud of you and embraces you, and we will continue to stand behind you in your mission."
Later in his address, he spoke about Chief Inspector Arnon Zmora, who fell in the mission to rescue hostages Almog Meir Jan, Andrey Kozlov, Shlomi Ziv, and Noa Argamani. The minister highlighted Zmora's bravery and heroism during the rescue mission, as well as on October 7th, when he fought to defend several communities and military installations in southern Israel.
The Minister concluded his address: "Thousands of IDF soldiers, in active duty and reserves, are currently fighting heroically in Gaza for the release of the hostages and the destruction of the Hamas terrorists. Their achievements are many and impressive, but with that comes great dangers and heavy prices. For their sake, we must act with a sense of national responsibility, determination, and unity. The goal is a clear victory - without compromises."
