The mini coalition-crisis between the National Religious Party and Ariel Sharon has been resolved, and MK Rabbi Yitzchak Levy assumed the position of Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs today. The Likud had originally insisted that Levy's authorities be limited to overseeing the dismantling of the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Levy and the NRP, however, said that such a process would take a year, and that in the meanwhile a full-time deputy minister was required to direct the provision of religious services. According to the agreement reached yesterday, Levy will be allowed to appoint a Director-General. Rabbi Levy will have offices in both the Prime Minister's Office and in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and he will split his time between them.
