As part of their absorption process into Israeli society, 1,000 new immigrants living in Jewish Agency absorption centers in the Jerusalem and central regions were introduced to a beautiful Israeli tradition: preparing and delivering mishloach manot (holiday food packages) for Purim to Israeli soldiers. However, unlike most Israelis, the new immigrants brought their mishloach manot all the way from the center of the country to soldiers in the 7th Brigade, serving on the Golan Heights in the north. The immigrants participating in the trip this year are from South America, Ethiopia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), France, and the United States.

The Jewish Agency reported that the olim (new immigrants) hand-delivered the packages, which they had personally prepared, and toured the Golan region. This is the third year in a row that Jerusalem region absorption center residents are distributing mishloach manot to the 7th Brigade. The Jewish Agency, their Global Jewish Agenda newsletter says, “considers this gesture to be of major importance in creating a bond between the immigrants and Israeli society in general, and the IDF in particular.”
