School children wearing costumes participated in Purim carnivals and parties today, in anticipation of the Purim holiday this coming Tuesday and Wednesday. Magen David Adom crews were called today to treat several children who were lightly hurt by holiday toys. The emergency medical organization continues to call upon parents and teachers to beware the dangers inherent in some of the toys and flammable costumes. Police confiscated 3,600 dangerous toy items in a store in an Israeli-Arab village in the north this afternoon.

The IDF imposed a closure on the Arab-populated areas of Yesha at midnight, and it will remain in effect until after the Purim holiday. The international crossings will remain open. Thousands of police will be deployed throughout the holiday in parks, recreation spots, malls, and other public areas. Orders have been given to make sure that illegal aliens from the Palestinian Authority do not cross the Green Line into pre-'67 Israel.

A giant Purim celebration will be held on Tuesday at the Great Synagogue in Jerusalem. Sponsors include the Maaleh Religious Center, the Pirsumei Nisa (Publicizing the Miracle) Productions Company, and the Jerusalem Municipality. The program will feature leading rabbis and musicians. Similar events were held in Tel Aviv in the past two years, but this year's required security measures were too much for the city to handle.
