The week of March 5-10 saw the visit of about 70 Polish travel journalists in Eilat, Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and Netanya. The journalists were here taking part in a conference of the Travel Writers Organization of Poland, for the second time in under a year. This time, the writers met in Eilat, as part of an effort by the southern city to promote itself as an attractive winter resort for the Polish vacationer.
The conference is the result of a coordinated effort by the Tourism Ministry, the Eilat Hoteliers Association, El Al and the Polish national airline. The trips taken to other sites in Israel by the leading travel journalists in Polish media concluded with a farewell event at the Park Hotel in Netanya. The choice of the Park Hotel - scene of the Passover suicide bombing massacre last year - was purposeful, and intended to demonstrate solidarity with the city of Netanya in the face of ongoing Arab terrorism. Last year, one month before the bombing, several of the Polish travel writers had accommodations at the same hotel.
