IDF troops withdrew this morning from areas in northern Gaza that were re-entered last week after the Haifa suicide attack that left 16 people dead.

Israel Radio reported that the troops were operating for several days north of the Jebalya refugee camp and Beit Lahiya in order to prevent Arab terrorists from firing Qassam rockets on Sderot. Israel radio suggested that the withdrawal was related to renewed contacts between Israel and PLO forces in Gaza. The PLO apparently has promised to curtail the firing of Kasam missiles on Sderot in exchange for the IDF withdrawal.

IDF troops last night destroyed the Hevron house of Mahmoud Kawasme, one of the terrorists who carried out the Kiryat Arba shooting attack in which Rabbi Elnatan and Dina Horowitz were killed Friday evening, Israel Radio reported.

In other news, eight explosive devices were uncovered by the IDF and detonated safely near the Samarian town of Yamun, close to Jenin, Israel Radio reported. Also last night, IDF forces arrested 19 wanted Palestinians in Judea and Samaria. Two of the men held are Mahazuz and Anwar Bashrat, who were involved in the murder of Alon Masoud in the Jordan Valley two months ago, Army Radio reported.
