It is the dreaded disease that almost everyone in this generation has been affected by: cancer. Those who have dealt closely with the illness, however, know that the physical ailments are only half the battle. Cancer takes a harsh financial toll, often leaving large families with no way to pay the most basic bills.

For Yisroel Hershkowitz of Ramot, the impact has been catastrophic. Yisroel, 47, had to leave his job when he got sick. His wife Minna spends her days and nights by his hospital bedside. Their children come home from school each day to babysitters. Their parents’ presence is sorely missed. As is the presence of warm clothing, decent shoes, and chicken dinners.

Minna has been forced to leave her job to take care of her husband, and the family barely gets by. There is a surgery overseas that could save the 47-year-old father’s life, but with their current financial state, what can they do?

Though deeply conflicted about doing so, Minna has been forced to tell their story on a public crowdfunding forum. At this point, it is their only hope. Donations are being accepted via an emergency fund, to save a young father and his children.
