The new government - Israel's 30th - held its first weekly Cabinet meeting today. Prime Minister Sharon said that the government's main goals are to accelerate the diplomatic process, to restore security, and to renew economic growth. Finance Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that all media reports of his new economic plan are "extremely irresponsible, unsubstantiated, and not based on any decision," and that he must first study the situation before deciding on a plan. Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz raised concerns that Hamas is strengthening itself as an alternative to the current Palestinian Authority leadership.
