The New Riyadh Daily, of Saudi Arabia, carried a report Sunday on the diplomatic fracas caused by the verbal confrontation between Crown Prince ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abdulaziz and Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi at the recent Arab League meeting in Egypt.
The Libyan leader accused Saudi Arabia of “striking a deal with the devil,” according to the newspaper. At which point, the report states, ‘Abdulaziz “immediately cut in, retorting that ‘You are a liar and your grave awaits you.’”
The Saudi prince went on to angrily attack Qaddafi, saying, “Saudi Arabia is not an agent of colonialism like you and others are.... Who exactly brought you to power?” The Riyadh Daily, however, conspicuously left out the Saudi leader’s answer to his own rhetorical barb - “Israel!” he declared on live Egyptian television. “Don’t speak or interfere in the things which you have no luck or chance in," he added. The newspaper reported, “The outspoken exchange between two leading Arab officials prompted Egyptian state television to cut its live feed of the summit’s proceedings.”
