Comedians, singers, and dancers will gather in Tel Aviv's Culture Hall tomorrow night for the benefit of the "Simchat HaLev (Happiness of the Heart) Laughter and Humor Healing Association." Tzvi Meir, the group's director-general, explained to Arutz-7 today that it comprises "professionals, many of them doctors and nurses, who use a special technique of humor and laughter to reach young hospital patients. The goal is to encourage and gladden them, but mainly to bring them to cooperate - which is the hardest part... It's not aquestion of jokes, but rather a way of talking and thinking. For instance, an adult whowishes to be a pilot knows that he must study manyyears, practice, get a license, etc. A child who wants to be a pilot, however, just opens his arms and flaps them, and he's a pilot! A child works with his imagination - and by using this, we can enter into his world."
Michael Tulkoff, a new immigrant from Baltimore, Md., is also one of the pioneers ina similar field of expertise. Known as a “medical magician, Tulkoff visits children in hospitals all over Israel, makes them laugh, entertains them with magic, and helps the kids get through what for some can be a traumatic hospital experience. In addition, based on briefings he receives from the medical staff, Tulkoff tailors the entertainment to help the child work on those areas that need strengthening, such as blowing bubbles for children who need to strengthen their lungs. For more information, see Arutz-7's Good NewsPage .
