It was announced late this afternoon that an IDF soldier was killed this morning in Gaza. He was fatally shot in the back by Arab snipers from Khan Yunis as he was walking to guard duty on his outpost near N'vei Dekalim. He was evacuated in serious condition to the hospital, but died en route. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of all his immediate relatives. The PFLP (Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine) took credit for the murder.
At least one soldier was wounded this morning during the IDF's continuing counter-terrorism action in Beit Hanoun, Gaza. The soldiers made house-to-house searches for wanted terrorists and weapons, destroyed four terrorist homes, and arrested several terrorists. The soldiers were attacked with gunfire and shrapnel grenades, and returned fire. Seven Arabs were killed in the IDF offensive in Beit Hanoun, and another 20 were wounded. The purpose of the offensive: to stop the firing of Kassam rockets at Sderot and other Jewish communities on both sides of the Gaza fence.
