Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Gillerman, called upon the international body to stop talking and start taking real action against terrorism. He also warned the UN that it must not permit Syria to take advantage of its position as a member of the Security Council, adding that Damascus continues to support terrorism. He made the remarks during an address to the UN Security Council (UNSC).

Israel, unique among UN member-states, is unable to take a seat in the Security Council, as it has been rejected for membership in each of the relevant regional groups.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Congressman Vito Fossella (R-NY) has written, in a recent New York Post opinion piece, that he has "introduced legislation to withhold US funding for any UN commission that is chaired by a country that the State Department classifies as a terrorist nation." The bill, should it pass, would preclude US funding for any UN commission chaired by Syria, among others.
