What did Prime Minister Ariel Sharon tell Labor Party leader Amram Mitzna yesterday that caused Labor to agree to consider joining a unity government? As opposed to yesterday, when the answer to this question was unknown because none of the participants wished to divulge what they had heard, today's lack of clarity is due to *too many* accounts of what happened there.

Ben Caspit wrote in today's Maariv that Sharon "astonished" Mitzna by promising him "a generous withdrawal from Yesha, the removal of Jewish communities in Yesha, a Palestinian state, and true peace" - and all this with a clearly designated timetable. "I'm serious about this," Sharon told Mitzna, according to Caspit, "and I mean what I say" - but warned that he could not be quoted and that his remarks must remain confidential.

The account of the meeting in today's Ha'aretz is different. Correspondent Aluf Benn reported that Sharon did not reveal to Mitzna his stance on the Road Map plan, and said he does not like the idea of a strict timetable. Benn did not mention whether Sharon and Mitzna discussed the removal of Jewish communities in Yesha.
