Five Kassam rockets were fired from Gaza this afternoon, in two separate attacks, at the Negev city of Sderot. One person, who was taken to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva, was lightly wounded - contrary to earlier reports that he had been seriously hurt. Some of the rockets landed in the city's industrial zone. The first attack came while mayors of several municipalities in the area were meeting in Sderot to discuss ways to deal with the increasing threat of Kassam rockets. It also came several hours after the IDF completed a large-scale counter-terrorism operation in Gaza (see below), one of the main objectives of which was the terrorists' Kassam-firing capabilities.
Israel Air Force helicopter gunships were reported hovering late this afternoon over Beit Hanoun, the area from where it is suspected that the rockets were fired.
Arab terrorists also targeted the northern Gaza community of Elei Sinai this afternoon with a mortar shell. The projectile landed short of its intended targeted, hitting an area under PA autonomous control.
