Riad Abu Ziyad, chief Hamas terrorist leader in Gaza, was killed in a shootout with IDF troops this morning. The incident began when Israeli soldiers came to apprehend Abu Ziyad in central Gaza; he attempted to flee, was shot by IDF forces, and died on the way to Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva. Abu Ziyad became Muhammed Def's official successor as head of the Gaza chapter of Hamas after arch-terrorist Def was seriously wounded by an Israeli missile attack last year.

Defense Minister Sha'ul Mofaz, speaking with reporters about the above news, said that after the murderous tank attack of two days ago, "I said that we would act with full force against Hamas. Now's the time to strike - not to talk." Four IDF tank crewmen were killed by the 100-kg. bomb that was placed two days ago under the route of their tank.

Also in the wake of that attack, dozens of Israeli tanks and foot soldiers entered PA-controlled Gaza earlier this morning. The maneuver appears to be the beginning of a retaliatory operation, but no word on its details has yet been provided.
