The United States has warned Israel not to expand its military operations in Rafah, Kan News reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, Israel made clear to the Americans that preventing the delivery of precise munitions can harm the military effort, strengthen Hamas, and therefore may threaten a deal for a ceasefire and hostage release.
The American decision to pause the arms shipment is considered unprecedented, especially in its publicity, and other nations, such as the UK, are considering stopping the exportation of defense materials and spare parts to Israel.
Sources privy to the discussions between Israel and the US expressed deep frustration over the American decision. According to them, "the move can threaten a hostage deal which is at a critical point." According to the sources, Israel also told the Americans that the pressure needs to be put on Hamas and not Israel.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin discussed the pause in arms shipments saying: "We are currently reviewing some near-term security assistance shipments in the context of the unfolding events in Rafah."
