In the quiet of his dorm room, Bentzi Schaeffer stands before the mirror, his suit hanging loosely on his young frame. He touches a fraying hole in his suit: The part that was torn at his father’s funeral. Memories - of his father’s death, of weeping on his grave, of his mother collapsed on the floor with grief - coming rushing back to him.
This year, the weight of responsibility falls on Bentzi's young 17-year-old shoulders: He will be leading the seder for the first time. He will stand in front of his little siblings and make kiddush in his father’s kittel, using all of his strength not to cry.
As Pesach approaches, Bentzi faces more than just preparing for the seder: The Schaeffers are struggling to afford groceries, clothing, and other essential items for the holiday. Mrs. Schaeffer is overwhelmed with grief, and awaits Pesach with despair. Bentzi's only suit remains torn from the period of mourning.
Currently, donations are being gathered to support the Schaeffers and 40 other families facing similar challenges. These families have experienced loss or illness and are unable to cover their basic expenses. Unfortunately, the campaign has yet to raise enough to assist even one family.
Please consider donating to help the Schaeffers. While their father may not be with them this Pesach, your contribution can make the most meaningful difference in their lives.
