Egypt continues its efforts to "make up" with Israel. Following Egyptian President Mubarak's phone call to congratulate Ariel Sharon on his election victory last week, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher called his Israeli counterpart Binyamin Netanyahu last night. The two discussed the Iraqi situation, as well as Egypt's mediation efforts between the PA and the terrorists of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Netanyahu expressed his appreciation for the Egyptian efforts, but said that Israel has its own ideas as to how to achieve quiet. The two agreed to talk again, and Mubarak and Sharon are also scheduled to meet in Sharm A-Sheikh several weeks from now.
