Shinui Party leader Tommy Lapid said this morning that he would be willing to sit in a coalition with United Torah Judaism, but not with Shas. Lapid has spent his political career bashing the hareidi parties, both UTJ and Shas. UTJ's Moshe Gafni said that he would sit in such a government only if Shinui agreed not to try to further erode the status quo on religious issues. "When we say something," Gafni said, "it's based on a deep tradition of the Torah of Israel of thousands of years. But Lapid has no deep traditions to draw on, but rather a shallow hatred, so therefore he can say last week that he won't sit with the hareidi parties, and this week say something else…"
