Marking 30 days since the horrific massacre which befell the State of Israel on October 7, Israeli President Isaac Herzog is inviting the Israel public and people around the world to light a memorial candle in the memory of the murdered and the fallen.

The candle-lighting will take place on Sunday November 5th, 21st of the Jewish month of Heshvan, at 6PM Israel time.

Herzog calls on everyone to light a candle, take a picture, and post the picture online with the hashtag #The_Light_Will_Overcome.

The New York Times published an opinion piece by President Herzog over the weekend, in which Herzog wrote: "Tragedy is part of Israeli life, and I knew it would be part of my time as president. But none of us imagined a tragedy like this."

"Against our will," he added, "we in Israel find ourselves at a tipping point for the Middle East and for the world, and at the center of what is nothing less than an existential struggle."

"This is not a battle between Jews and Muslims," the President noted, "and it is not just between Israel and Hamas. It is between those who adhere to norms of humanity and those practicing a barbarism that has no place in the modern world."
