Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today (Monday) visited the Israel Police's Unit 33, the Gidonim, in Israel's Central District. The visit was accompanied by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai. Unit 33 specializes in complicated undercover arrests in hostile environments.
Netanyahu received an overview from the commander of the unit on the battles the unit waged in the Kfar Gaza region, at the "Black Arrow" monument and in the South Command sector. He also observed their operational command center and an additional classified capability as well as a simulation of an operational activity that combines the capability of disguise , deception, and arrest in an Arab community.
At the end, the Prime Minister spoke with the officers the unit, most of whom participated in the battles against Hamas in the south.
"Your unit fights all year round and even on the accursed day, on that accursed Sabbath. Over 50 policemen and policewomen sacrificed their lives to save the citizens of the country. We bow our heads in memory of them and their bravery for their sacrifice. The Israel Police under the Commissioner does a sacred job, all the time, protecting us, including this morning, and all citizens of Israel have a duty, especially these days, to salute you," Netanyahu said.
He added, "You also work in full cooperation with other forces and with the ISA. Under the head of the ISA, you did and are doing a very great covert job, also in combination with the other security forces, a hidden operation that saves lives all the time - I salute them. Of course, all the security forces together work with you, with the Chief of Staff, with the commanders, with the IDF, who are on the front line and protect our homeland."
"We are fighting for our home, and we will win, with the help of these people and others who are imbued with the fighting spirit, the spirit of sacrifice, the spirit of victory," he concluded.
