American actor Matthew Perry, known for his role on the hit sitcom “Friends”, died on Saturday night at the age of 54, TMZ reported.
According to the report, the actor was found unresponsive at a Los Angeles-area home, having drowned in a jacuzzi.
No drugs were found at the scene and there is no foul play involved. The cause of death is not yet clear.
Perry was born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, on Aug. 19, 1969, but was raised on Ottawa, Canada, where his mother, Suzanne Morrison, served as press secretary to then-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. He attended elementary school with Trudeau’s son, Justin, the current Prime Minister of Canada.
Perry moved to Los Angeles as a teenager but his big break came in 1994 on the NBC sitcom “Friends”, on which he played the role of Chandler Bing for 10 seasons, landing an Emmy nomination in 2002.
